How Studio Gaudet works

Skills still progress intentionally

Reading, spelling, math, handwriting and other developmental skills follow clear progressions. The Adventure week can move forward while a child stays at the skill level they still need.

The Adventure gives the context

Community, weather, dinosaurs, gardens and other themes give children a reason to use the skills they are learning. The theme supports the learning; it does not replace it.

You adapt without starting over

Practice and Challenge change the amount of support or depth without requiring a completely different activity.

Real life counts

Learning can happen through a walk, conversation, favourite toy, block build, grocery store, movement game, read-aloud or direct instruction. The skill stays intentional even when the learning looks playful.

Studio Gaudet has two layers. The Adventure gives children a shared topic, question or world to explore. The learning progression determines what comes next in literacy, mathematics and developmental skills.

The literacy progression continues across Adventures too. A child working through letter sounds, blending or reading does not start over when the theme changes.

Five areas we build across the curriculum.

Become a Reader

Reading, writing and oral language

Literacy instruction is systematic, explicit and cumulative. Children build phonological awareness, sound-symbol knowledge, blending, comprehension, writing and communication. Reading and handwriting may develop at different rates.

Become a Mathematician

Quantity, pattern, shape, measurement and relationship

Young children first build mathematical understanding through objects, movement, comparison, noticing and conversation.

Become a Scientist

Notice. Compare. Wonder and predict. Investigate.

Science starts with observing closely, asking questions, testing ideas and talking about what happened.

Grow Strong

Fine motor, gross motor and healthy bodies

Children build coordination, balance, hand strength and control through movement and hands-on activities.

Grow My Heart

Feelings, regulation, relationships and belonging

Children practise recognising feelings, calming their bodies, solving problems, developing independence and understanding their place in families and communities.

Practice and Challenge are two amounts of help.

Practice: guided together

You model more, repeat more and do more alongside your child.

Challenge: greater independence

Your child carries more of the thinking or doing while you stay nearby.

Families can move between them subject by subject, activity by activity and day by day.

A child can read beautifully and still be building the hand strength to write. That’s childhood.

Curriculum-aligned learning, without making home feel like school.

Studio Gaudet lessons are built with Canadian early-years curriculum expectations in mind, with particular reference to Alberta and Prince Edward Island outcomes.

Those outcomes guide the planning behind the scenes. Parents do not need to decode curriculum documents or outcome numbers to use the lesson.

At the end, Look What Happened Today shows what the child actually practised.

Curriculum alignment gives the learning direction. It does not turn your home into a classroom.

The year

A learning year with room to live

Studio Gaudet includes 10 core Adventures, designed to carry families through a rich learning year without assuming children need formal lessons twelve months of the year.

There is room for holidays, sick days, travel, slow weeks, favourite books, spontaneous interests and days when life itself becomes the lesson.

Summer can still be full of reading, wondering, creating and exploring without needing to become another term of school.

Technology should get you off technology.

Studio Gaudet is primarily a tool for the grown-up.

Open the lesson. Watch or listen to short guidance when you need it. Understand what you are teaching.

Then put the device down.

The real learning happens through conversation, movement, books, making, playing and exploring together.
